1. What is therapy?
Therapy is not easily described in general statements. It varies depending on the personalities of the therapist and client, and the particular problems you bring forward. There are many different methods I may use to deal with the problems that you hope to address. Therapy is not like a medical doctor visit. Instead, it calls for a very active effort on your part. In order for the therapy to be most successful, you will have to work on things we talk about both during our sessions and at home. Therapy can have benefits and risks. Since therapy often involves discussing unpleasant aspects of your life, you may experience uncomfortable feelings like sadness, guilt, anger, frustration, loneliness, and helplessness. On the other hand, psychotherapy has also been shown to have benefits for people who go through it. Therapy often leads to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and significant reductions in feelings of distress. However, there are no guarantees of what you will experience.
2. How do I know if the therapist is right for me?
Our first few sessions will involve an evaluation of your needs. By the end of the evaluation, I will be able to offer you some first impressions of what our work will include and a treatment plan to follow, if you decide to continue with therapy. You should evaluate this information along with your own opinions of whether you feel comfortable working with me. Therapy involves a large commitment of time, money, and energy, so you should be very careful about the therapist you select. If you have questions about my procedures, we should discuss them whenever they arise.
3. How do I know if therapy is working?
Through a collaborative process, we will evaluate at the end of every session how it went and how we are going to proceed from there. I value and rely on your feedback, and we will adjust, modify and adapt our techniques accordingly. It is my hope that this continuous process will give you a better understanding of your progress.
4. How do I know when therapy is complete?
As we discussed above, through a process of collaboration, when we conclude that your goals are met and that you are successfully applying your newly-gained skills, we may decide together to complete therapy. Depending on our last assessment, I may ask you to come back in six months for at least one more session to re-evaluate how you have adjusted in the interim. You may return to therapy at any time.
5. How do I pay for therapy?
In our office we use the private pay option. We do not accept insurance coverage and clients are expected to pay directly at the end of each session. We will provide you with a super bill with all the necessary information that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
If you choose to get reimbursement from your insurance you might want to call before starting therapy and verify that you are eligible for reimbursement, check your deductibles and the rate of reimbursement.
For your convenience, we accept all types of payments.
6. How shall I cancel my therapy appointment?

Please be courteous and understand that we might be seeing other clients at the time of your call and will respond as soon as we can.
